Members and prospective members agree to conform to the Rules and Constitution of the Society and the General Code of Ethics of the Kennel Club as a condition of their membership. |

Members who are breeders should keep accurate and current breeding records, registration papers and pedigrees and only Kennel Club registered Dobermann’s should be used for breeding purposes. |

Members who are breeders should enter into a Contract of Sale with prospective purchasers and the contract should clearly lay out to the buyer the nature and details of any guarantee given (e.g. time limit) and/or any provisions for refund or return and replacement of the puppy. If endorsements are being used the contract should also explain why these have been placed and under what circumstances they would be removed (if any). The contract should be signed and dated by both breeder and purchaser, showing that both have agreed to these terms. A receipt must also be provided by the breeder to the buyer of the puppy at the time of sale along with the dog’s registration certificate if available and proof of transfer of ownership. |

Members are required to follow Kennel Club policy regarding minimum and maximum ages for breeding and the numbers and frequency of litters i.e. bitches should not be mated until they are 2 years of age and not after they are 6 years of age and a bitch should not be bred from more often than once in any period of twelve calendar months. |

Members must conform to Kennel Club and Dobermann Breed Council health screening recommendations that have been identified as a potential health risk to Dobermann’s as part of their breeding programme with all breeding stock |

Prior to the sale of a puppy to a new buyer the puppy should be in good health and have been socialised. Breeders should provide the buyer with written advice on the continuation of socialisation, exercise and future training. Written advice should also be provided on feeding and worming programmes and on the immunisation measures taken. A puppy should not leave the breeders until they are eight weeks old and the breeder should continue to provide reasonable post-sales telephone advice and if required commit help with the re-homing of a dog, for whatever reason, throughout the dog’s lifetime. |

Members who use dogs at stud should before breeding from the dog check with a veterinary surgeon and the breeder of the stud dog to find out whether there are any possible inherited conditions that may affect the breed to assist in the prevention or control of some diseases or known faults. Responsible breeders should also ensure that any bitch to which a dog is to be mated has also been tested under these schemes. Breeding terms or stud fees should be arranged by mutual agreement in writing between the owner of the dog and the owner of the bitch before the mating takes place. |

Puppies that are born with apparent defects should be euthanised at birth. |

The Society does not recognise or support the use of White Dobermann’s in breeding programmes and members should not under any circumstances use a White Dobermann for this purpose. |

By agreeing to these Standards members of the Society will be expected to demonstrate a responsible and caring attitude as an owner and breeder at all times in order to improve and enhance the health, temperament, quality and preserve the future and reputation of the breed. |
